Days of the Week Song!

Remember how I've been looking for a good days of the week song to go along with our calendar?  Well, I found one today on the Shafer Family Blog.  It's quick and easy and a tune we all know!  Here is is:

Once There Was A Snowman

When it's been too cold to go outside and play in the snow, we've done some snow activities inside. Some of our favorites have been having snowball fights with cotton balls, making snowflakes, and singing "Once there was a Snowman." This is a fun, active song for little ones that we learned through the children's programs at our church.

Here is a video of Isaac doing the actions. (If he looks a little stiff it's because he was really nervous about being filmed. Silly boy! Usually he can't get enough of performing for the camera!)

Popsicle Idea Jar

We keep a jar (well, a cup actually) full of idea Popsicle sticks on a shelf in our living room. These quick ideas are great for those times when we all have a touch of winter induced cabin fever!

I color coded our sticks into two categories: the sticks with a red end are songs to sing. I posted here listing some common songs for toddlers and preschoolers. The sticks with a black end are activities to do together. Here are some of the quick, little prep activities we enjoy. The color coding and writing were all done in permanent marker. This has proved to be a fun and useful jar!

The Hokey Pokey Trick

Lately my husband has started singing the Hokey Pokey to help our almost two year old get dressed. It is amazing how well this turns a squiggling wiggle worm into a cooperative kid! Here's his version of the song, adapted for getting dressed:

You have both arms in and you shake them all about.
You do the Hokey Pokey and you help your Daddy out.
That's what it's all about!

Singing the Day Away

My little one loves music, but I find that whenever he wants to sing a song, the same three or so come to my mind. To broaden our singing horizons, I made a jar with little slips of paper inside, each with the title of a children's song. When we have "music time" we take turns pulling out a little paper and singing the song listed. This has been great fun!

Here is a list of common children's songs, and although I know there are many more, this was a good place to start for us. If you're interested you can copy and paste the titles, print them off and cut them out for your own "Music Time Song Jar."
